Department of Automation
In 2018, in response to the needs of disciplinary development, the Department of Automation was established to take primary responsibility for the teaching and student cultivation of the undergraduate Automation program. The department is supported by the first-level discipline of Control Science and Engineering, which, with its leading academic standards, rigorous scholarly tradition, and strong research capabilities, ranks among the national key disciplines and first-level disciplines authorized to confer doctoral degrees. It enjoys a prestigious academic standing in China’s control science community.
The first-level discipline of Control Science and Engineering was selected in 2017 as one of the first national “Double First-Class” disciplines and was rated in A Category in the fourth round of China’s national discipline evaluation.
The Department of Automation is supported by a distinguished faculty. Renowned control scientists Academician Zhonghan Qian and Academician Chunbo Feng served in the former Department of Automatic Control for decades and made significant contributions to the discipline. The Department currentlycomprises 46 full-time faculty members.
The Automation program aims to cultivate versatile engineering professionals oriented toward the engineering design and development of automation systems. Graduates are expected to possess capabilities in both software and hardware design, knowledge of electrical systems, a solid foundation in control theory, and practical competence in automation engineering applications. They are also expected to develop distinctive professional strengths, in both knowledge and hands-on practice in specialized areas, including control science, control engineering, intelligent robotics, and intelligent information processing.
The program’s core courses include Introduction to Automation, Operations Research and Optimization, Principles of Automatic Control II, Automation Components, Automatic Detection Technology, Power Electronics, Motion Control, Computer Control Systems, Digital Signal Processing, and Introduction to Artificial Intelligence.
Starting from the third year, the Automation program is divided into three research directions: Control Science, Control Engineering, and Intelligent Information Processing.
Graduates are well prepared for careers in scientific research, technology development, engineering design, and management in fields such as motion control, industrial process control, automated testing and control, pattern recognition and intelligent systems, intelligent information processing, and aerospace control. The program equips students with the analytical, technical, and practical skills required to address complex engineering challenges in advanced automation and control systems across academia, industry, and government sectors.
